California Tour: Day 2, Kirkwood Mountain

All photos by Dirtbag Darling
Remember how I said I love California? Well, I really do. It's just so cool to be able to go from coastline to snow-covered mountains in just a few hours. The terrain out here is so diverse and everything is so huge! Why didn't I appreciate it more when I lived here?

We spent Sunday snowboarding at Kirkwood Mountain, near Lake Tahoe. The drive is was nothing short of terrifying. Snow chains were required but since we were in a rental, we didn't have any. Luckily we made it through the check point. Luckily? Not so much...the roads were covered in an inch of ice that made any uphill ascent an adrenaline rush, and not the good kind. Before we even go to the resort we saw multiple cars in ditches.

Before the drive turned terrifying.
So, if you choose to go out for snow day, make sure you have chains and four-wheel drive. Our day on the mountain was incredible: I stayed mostly warm, I was challenged and I got to spend time with someone I love. Oh, and then there's the scenery.

I wish I had more to show you but....our rental car got broken into and all of my stuff was stolen! Ugh! That includes my camera, two GoPros, my wallet and a few expensive stuff sacks. More on that later...
